OnabotulinumtoxinA is a natural, purified protein with the ability to temporarily block the secretion of the chemical that is responsible for “turning on” the body’s sweat glands. By blocking this this chemical, Botox® essentially “turns off” sweating at the area where it has been injected. The injections of dilute Botox® are very shallow just below the surface of the skin. In clinic we will do an assessment to determine if treating your excessive sweating is appropriate.
In addition to the psychological stresses, over active sweating can cause painful or irritating skin problems, such as bacterial or fungal overgrowth, infections, and skin maceration.
